Food always symbolize an inseparable joy of festivals especially in India where people obsess over it completely. Eid itself is a celebration that brings along a list of recipes to leave anybody mouth-watering. It is the fast breaking food that owns its preparations days before Eid.
People after an entire month of fasting with religious sentiments, do not tend to compromise with the delicacies. From desserts to spicy non vegetarian curries, from biryani to kebabs, the festival is full of lavish dishes. Indeed, it reflects the culture of the Mughal Cuisine and revive the flavors that are eternal. Well, it is the season of delicious food and visiting your friend’s place to enjoy the traditional flavors.

Well, I may present the regular reader with a bit of guns and ammo but, an unsung comrade has always garnered the appreciation of the ones who’ve known this unknown yet friendly entity.

Obviously luxury has proven itself to be a bit choosy while talking about the dazzling liquid which has been mentioned in the title itself!

Rum has garnered a fair share of appreciation in the luxurious section ofhistory. But at the same time, it has proven itself as a good friend from the medical division. Here are a few reasons why:-

Sacred origins

The Rum can be traced back to the ancient corner of Asia, in other words the Indian and the Chinese regions. Many civilizations throughout history have mentioned the making of Rum. It was after its transportation through the naval routes that it reached Caribbean, and became valuable asset.

It also holds the reputation of being the ace among all the spirited beverages. It surely is the grand daddy of all.

Heart friendly

Rum is also a blood thinner. This in turn helps in lowering the blood pressure, it also prevents the risk of having heart attacks. Removing blockages is also present in its already perfect CV.

Rum as painkiller


The beverage also is helpful in reducing notorious muscle pains. A normal dosage with a healthy meal on a regular basis isa perfect combination and the “Happy Meal”!

But, in order to sustain the survivable conditions in an already harsh environment, the Rum is taken before the evening meal. It helps the soldiers in fighting off the chilling cold, while in turn giving the warmth to defend the strategic borders.

It’s true that Rum has been an ally throughout centuries but at the same time, it has also been present with a few undesirable aspects present in history. From pirates to party tables, and all the way to a nice fireplace with an open book, it has seen everything. So I guess it is up to us on how we cherish this valuable drink with responsible behavior. And as far as the memories are concerned, you won’t be disappointed.

Kitchen becomes “The Kitchen”

When a human mind falls in love with the art of making delicious food then the first thing which comes into his/her mind is “the kitchen should necessarily be treated as a temple”. The results are glistening utensils, sharp knives, groceries aligned as if they’re the pit crew of your stomach’s NASCAR race. You’ll be surprised by the results yourselves.

All your troubles lose importance when you stand under orchard trees. When the soaking rains suddenly stop, your feet sink deep into the soil. The smell of fresh mango spring up something that is worth more than money.

To heighten your mirth and solace, UP Mango Festival has organized one such rendezvous, the Orchard Visit. Before traversing the mango lanes, let us see what a Mango Fest actually is!

About UP Mango Fest –

In the present time, more than 1,360 varieties of mangoes are available worldwide, out of which more than 1,000 are found in India. The factual diversity ranges from different various breeds to various sizes (from the size of a grape to a weight over 2.5 kg). This wide spectrum is a prime attraction for people from all over the world. Hence, UP Mango Fest aims at providing recognition to the King of Fruits by the means of an annual exhibition.

Objectives of Mango Fest –

Are you aware of the origin of Mango? Well, it is considered as a native crop to Indian Subcontinent, cultivated for over 4,000 years! Hence, an essential part of this fest is to pay homage to Indian farmers for running the cultivation of this traditional crop. The next aim is providing easy access to various breeds of mango and associated products at user-friendly prices. This is a major catch in the event where people taste selectively handpicked fresh farm-fruits. Another purpose to organize this event is to promote & patronize mango-growers to advance technologically to increase their production and product quality. Extracting maximum returns from the product, making provisions for sales of secondary sellers, tapping domestic and international markets and ultimately contributing to the national economy all circle the target of Mango Fest.

Pioneers of UP Mango Fest –

jyotsana-wordhazard-newThe first UP Mango Festival was held in 2013 as a motivational event to promote the regional breeds and their cultivators, to extend support to farmers and women in agriculture. It has been adopted as an annual fest ever since.
The UP Mango Fest owes its glory to the efforts of Jyotsna Kaur Habibullah, who led to the first successful fest in 2013. Madhvendra Deo Singh supported as an Agripreneur to uplift the nation and its people.
The ‘Orchard Visit’ had been held in Madhav Udyaan, Malihabaad until last year. In 2018, it will be organized in the Abbasi mango orchard which belongs to Shahid Abbasi to cover more orchards in the state.

About Orchard Visit –

The orchard visit is scheduled on 17th of the month in the Abbasi Orchard in Kakori. Promoting eco & agricultural tourism, giving an exquisite experience of biodiversity, educating the youth about fresh fruit benefit, etc are all targeted in this event. Quite a number of activities, fun competitions, educational programs are exclusively put up to jack enthusiasm in the audience.

From magnificent breakfast to tractor safari, preservative-free items to artistic blues, every loadstone is displayed. Various competitions include musical chairs, photography, ready-made mango items & mango eating competitions, etc are organized for all ages. Various fun activities, inclusive of a treasure hunt, orchard walks, tractor/horse rides, poster/props making, Quizzes and many more are conducted.

Even cultural parade is provided with major attractions like Awadhi Qawwali, folk dance forms, Purana-pan Daan, Zari kari, Chikankari, Kiss-ae-kakori etc are intensely enjoyed by the audience.

The 2018 Orchard visit is scheduled on 17th June from 7 am to 11 am.
